Winter claws my throat

And fills my lungs with her snow

To show my frailties.

I love getting comments from people who have read my post. It’s often fun to hear from friends who have run across it. It also proves that someone is out there listening.

But the spam is killing me.

Some of it is easy to clear out. My guess is that the commenter named blowjob4u69 doesn’t really have anything constructive to say. I’m also not that interested in what kidrockallsumerlong has to say either, especially since it was about digital media downloads, or something like that.

It’s the comments that sound like they are speaking about the post but aren’t truly saying anything.

Let’s look at the following actual comments:

“I love this! SO happy i found this! Just what i was looking for!”

and

“Superb blog post, a bunch of great data. I am about to show my girlftriend and ask them what they think.”

Here is the deal: they sound good, but they don’t really mean anything. It could be about anything, really.

I used to get on my AP Lit & Comp students about this. Lack of specifics make it meaningless.

Most of the people I know comment with specifics, something that tells me they are referring to a specific post.

And most of the time, I go through a day receiving twenty comments. Of those twenty a day, maybe one is a real comment. It’s pretty crazy.

I don’t know why there are computer programs sending out spam that either makes no sense or is totally vacuous. Most people don’t do anything unless it gives them jollies or makes them money. How does that silliness do either?
