Jason Alberty is a freelance writer, actor and director. His work can be seen at Theatre Cedar Rapids,  The Classics at Brucemore, and during SPT’s productions of The Writers’ Room.

Jason was born in the Republic of Singapore and lived on the island of Sumatra until he was five. From there he lived in both Oklahoma and Iowa. His first two years of undergraduate work were at Emerson College in Boston. He finished up his BA at the University of Iowa with a concentration in Medieval Literature.

He kicked around for a while, working in retail, the advertising industry, and interior decorating before getting his MAT at the University of Iowa. He taught high school for twelve years, but is currently a stay-home dad who does freelance work on the side.

Among his directing credits are A Streetcar Named Desire and The Laramie Project for Theatre Cedar Rapids, as well as Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Classics at Brucemore. He has been published in ETC: A Review of General Semantics, and was the script-coordinator and head writer for Moving Home, a local arts collaborative show (of which SPT was a driving force) at Brucemore in response to the devastating flood of 2008.

Jason’s current projects include this third season of SPT’s The Writers’ Room Series, as well as the upcoming productions of Six Characters in Search of an Author and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for Theatre Cedar Rapids. He has finished the first book his eco-fantasy entitled The Galadahnia and is presently looking for funding to create a large scale interactive web site for the trilogy.
