Wow,

What a full plate you have. Glad you are able to keep a sense of humor about it. I am sure that is tough. Also if you are planning on partaking the cuba libres that way, hold the limes...trust me.

Thanks for the "personal" update via e-mail. Kind of funny how that is personal isn't it? Q and I were at the house last Wednesday, had a good time with the boys and Julie. Did a little cleaning as well. Both boys make me laugh at times. Glad your hanging in there and not jumping off a cliff. Scott

STUCKEY'S wow the only time I remember those are when I drive to Chicago and try to remember where the one on my way to my Grandma's house used to be. I remember the vending machine with all trinkets that would make a young boy say, "Dad, Can we get that?"

Hey Jas. Been thinking of you.

Wes, I think you make some very important points. My wife and I were wringing our hands the other day about how far underwater we are in our mortgage and trying to figure out how to add a bedroom because the time that our 10 yr old girl and 7 yr old boy will be willing to share is quickly running out. We then began the who is me routine on lots of other fronts.....not enought itme in the day blah blah blah.

Then we just looked at each other and started to laugh. We are so extremely fortunate to have jobs, health, freinds family and homes.

I had dinner with my folks the other day and for the first time began thinking about their mortality, they have finnaly start to show their age and it shook me..I am glad to live close to them and need to start sending more time their way...

I could ramble on.

I have been in conflict over this thought for many years. On one hand (no pun intended) you have the guy who hacked his own arm off to save his life. He survived the shock, injury, dehydration etc. It leaves you with this "we can conquer our destiny" feeling coupled with a bit of the Jurassic Park-ism that life finds a way to survive.

On the other hand - one tiny little blood clot can break loose and cause a fatal brain hemorrhage. Or you might cough yourself to death. We had a parent in our area that started coughing due to putting what I assume was a 'green' log in his fireplace. The smokey log culminated in a heart-attack from the violent coughing and lack of oxygen. He had an elementary school child.

In any event - you are correct in the thought that we should relish every moment. My wife and I were talking last night about expenses and things we were doing for our child. Her final statement was that she had just been on FB earlier in the day and saw a picture of one of our daughters childhood friends. The girl had passed away last year from a genetic disease. My wife pointed out that her parents would probably love to be stressing about $ they were spending for her activities in stead of missing her. So, you are correct - right now for us, this is a lucky moment.

Being a youngest, I hadn't given much thought to the eventualities in life with regard to aging parents. I certainly hadn't given thought to the fact that in your case - even though you are a youngest - you are also in a unique position to be the load bearer. I can picture your folks place and I try to imagine that +20 more years of stuff. It's got to be a bit overwhelming. But you are exactly right with your first observation. Thankfully, my in-laws have actually begun the process of purging.

The change in roles from 'son' to 'caregiver' is certainly stressful enough. And It's got to be rough on your own family. I hope you are doing ok and that your folks rapidly make strong gains with their health. Take care.

Thanks, Dude. Back at you. I can use the love right now. You know, I knew what you meant when you were talking about how much you love your kids that sometimes you just hug them until they feel compelled to squirm. Do you remember that? It was about a year or two ago. But this kind of event, this kind of time away, really makes me not just know, but understand it.
